With a little help from his one-armed brother Clyde, his sister Mellie and an incarcerated explosive expert, the aptly named Joe Bang, he plans to steal $14 million from the Charlotte Motor Speedway on the busiest race day of the year. Acclaimed director David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) returns with an unforgettable meditation on love and grief. Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife, only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Geoffrey Rush is superb as Alberto Giacometti, the famous artist, who bumps into his old friend, the American critic James Lord, and begs him to sit for a portrait because he has an interesting face. It’ll just take a couple of days in his studio. Lord is flattered by the request but as the days go by and turn into weeks, seemingly with no end in sight, he realises his entire life has been hijacked by this erratic genius. Directed by Stanley Tucci, also starring Armie Hammer and Clemence Poesey.

Dunkirk [12A] 106 mins
Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan’s spectacular Second World War drama told from three different perspectives – land, air and sea. In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated. Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance co-star, with Cillian Murphy, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles and James D’Arcy.

When stand-up comedian Kumail and Emily meet after one of his stand-up sets, what should be just a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing, which complicates the life that is expected of Kumail by his traditional Muslim parents. When Emily is beset by a mystery illness and falls into a coma, Kumail finds himself forced to face her feisty parents, his family’s expectations and his true feelings.
