You Were Never Really Here [15] 90 mins
A traumatised veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living. When a job spins out of control, Joe’s nightmares overtake him as a conspiracy is uncovered leading to what may be his death trip or his awakening. A stunningly intense avenge noir directed by Lynne Ramsay (We Need To Talk About Kevin) starring Joaquin Phoenix, with a score by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood.

To celebrate the centenary year of the composer’s birth, the Royal Ballet has united all three of its associate choreographers to celebrate the dynamic range and danceability of Bernstein’s music. The programme includes two world premieres by Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor and Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon, marking each artist’s first foray into Bernstein and the first revival of Artist in Residence Liam Scarlett’s The Age of Anxiety, created in 2014 to Bernstein’s soul-searching Second Symphony starring Laura Morera, Steven McRae, Bennet Gartside and Tristan Dyer.

Kenneth MacMillan’s source for Manon was the 18th-century French novel, where he found new sympathy with the capricious Manon and her struggle to escape poverty. But it is Manon and Des Grieux’s impassioned pas de deux – recalling the intensity of MacMillan’s earlier Romeo and Juliet – that drive this tragic story, and make Manon one of MacMillan’s most powerful dramas. Starring Sarah Lamb, Vadim Muntagirov, Ryoichi Hirano, Itziar Mendizabal and Gary Avis.
Bristol Old Vic:

Inspired by Handel’s profound masterpiece, this acclaimed Bristol Old Vic production provides a rare chance to experience a powerfully dramatic account of Messiah and to rediscover the intense spirituality of its many well-known arias and choruses. Verdi’s life-long love affair with Shakespeare’s works began with Macbeth, a play he considered to be “one of the greatest creations of man”. Phyllida Lloyd’s 2002 production for The Royal Opera is richly hued and depicts the Macbeths’ childlessness as the dark sadness lurking behind their terrible deeds. Conducted by Antonio Pappano and starring Zeljko Lucic, Anna Netrebko and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo.
Royal Shakespeare Company Live:

Returning home from battle, the victorious Macbeth meets three witches on the heath. Driven by their disturbing prophecies, he sets out on the path to murder. The RSC’s contemporary production of Shakespeare’s darkest psychological thriller is directed by Polly Findlay and marks both Christopher Eccleston’s RSC debut and the return of Niamh Cusack to the company.

The Dam Busters at 75: LIVE from the Royal Albert Hall

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the original Dam Busters raid and to mark the anniversary Kino Rye will be screening a special programme live from The Royal Albert Hall.
Dan Snow will be joined on stage by the Glenn Miller Orchestra plus special guests including family members of both Dam Busters’ crew and the film’s director Michael Anderson, historian Paul Beaver and Professor Hugh Hunt as they explore the history of the iconic raid and how it led to the making of a classic British film. Digitally remastered for the occasion, The Dam Busters will be screened following the show.
