Rye’s first professional pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, which is supported by Arts Council England, local charity ARRCC and Rother District Council, will run December 9-27 at the Rye Creative Centre theatre. It has announced a themed artwork competition with prizes for children across a variety of age groups. The winner of each category will receive a family ticket to the show and also have their artwork displayed at the Jack and the Beanstalk exhibition, which will run throughout the pantomime at the Rye Creative Centre.
Children of all abilities can enter and the theme of Jack and the Beanstalk can be interpreted freely. The pantomime itself, directed by Jeremy Tustin and produced by professional actress Hayley-Marie Axe, is tailor-made and incorporates local legends, so entrants can feel free to take inspiration from some of the characters; Winchelsea Will, The Maids of Iden, The Ogre of Brede, Fairy Nuff or Romney the Lamb.
The categories are as follows:
Reception – year 3
Juniors – year 4-6
Key stage 3 – year 7-9
Key stage 4 – year 10-11
Key stage 5 – year 12-13
