I was one of the fortunate people who worked with Kt Bruce to develop the hour-long teaching session that will form part of her training course. I had requested tuition on an iPhone. Kt met me at a local event that offered opportunities to take a variety of photographs, and we worked our way through a clear and structured approach to taking a good photograph. To start with, I learnt about placement, light and shade and the importance of background and, after initial guidance, I was sent away to try taking five pictures on my own.
Throughout, Kt was patient, calm and approachable, non-judgmental and explained the mistakes I was making. The five photos I took were subsequently looked at on WhatsApp and compared to five Kt had taken, which I found very useful in comparing and contrasting the skilled photographer to the novice.
I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Kt, who has a real passion for her art and have every intention of continuing my efforts at improving my skills. She has offered to help me further and my next task is to take five photos of quirky Rye, which I very much looking forward to doing.
