Summer is a talented young artist and will be showcasing her work at the Rye Creative Centre’s Christmas Makers Fair – Meet the Makers, on November 26 and 27 from 10am to 4pm.

Summer was always interested in art at school and was lucky enough to have a teacher who not only spotted her talent but also encouraged her to go out of her comfort zone and explore all sorts of mediums. She even commissioned Summer to do a painting of the Landgate in Rye and from that painting came the idea of doing a set of cards for Christmas which depict various well-known views of Rye and are quirky in their design. Summer has her own style and it is proving popular – she had to have a reprint of her last set of cards.

Summer’s pebble

She is meticulous about tiny details and has branched out by painting pebbles. She started doing this in lockdown and she and her dad painted lots for their garden. Summer’s grandfather was a talented artist too, so it’s in the genes. One of her pebbles of St Mary’s church is highly sought after and had people bidding each other to become its owner. It is splendid and captures the church beautifully.

If you want to catch up with Summer and learn more about her journey do visit the Christmas market and meet some other wonderful artists too. They are a friendly group all supporting each other and bouncing ideas between them.

Or contact Summer directly at her email address summersartatrye@gmail.com.
