Rainbow Pete last featured in Rye News in the article Market Forces in April this year. At that time he was raising money for the NHS as his colourful one-man band at Rye market.
Last Saturday Pete made another appearance in Rye, this time on the high street to add a bit of sunshine and to brighten up the day for our locals and visiting tourists.
Dressed in his signature rainbow top hat, green trousers, multi-coloured tailcoat and ‘Elton John’ style glasses, he pitched up complete with trolley, amplifier, microphone and guitar case and continued to entertain the passers-by with music and song from his extensive repertoire.
So, what’s it all about? Pete was collecting and raising money for FareShare, and so far this year he has raised £1,018 to add to his grand total of £4,811 since 2018.
FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations who take good quality surplus food and get it to 9,500 front line charities and community groups. Each week they provide enough food to create almost a million meals for vulnerable people at homeless shelters, community cafes, lunch clubs and school breakfast clubs across the UK.
Pete is a charity busker and has raised thousands of pounds for various causes including his local church in New Romney. You can catch up with Pete by email on pb364375@gmail.com or contact him on his mobile: 07746 404485.
If you see him ‘doing his thing’ don’t just walk past, say hello and drop a little something into his guitar case and when you do, as a thank you from the charities he so regularly supports, you’ll get a loud honk or two on his claxon.
