Reflections: do they offer you the opportunity to consider how your personal experiences and observations shape your thinking and your acceptance of new ideas? Do they give you time to contemplate?

Reflection is essential in everyone’s life. But reflections to me are visual. As the day ends the light has its own special magical qualities. The reflections on water are ever-changing and transient. They last just a moment and are replaced with something even more spectacular if you take the time to look.

The art of all good photography is observation and patience. Try looking at things from different angles get down low to your subject, lean on a bridge and look down, never be satisfied with the first take.

Whilst visiting a marina recently the reflections in the slide show below depict the magnificence of nature. The patterns, the shapes but the key to all these photos is the light.

Another experience recently was in a car wash of all places. The abstractness of the patterns makes them pieces of art in their own right. All it took was observation and timing.

I have been doing some 1:1 tuition sessions with people who have shown a desire to improve their skills and they have been really rewarding as it is wonderful to watch people’s photographic abilities improve. Lately I have been asked if I would do group sessions. Some people are intimidated by 1:1 sessions and would like to have a fun evening with friends and learn new skills so I have added that to my portfolio.

“Water is the mirror that has the ability to show us what we cannot see. It is a blueprint for our reality, which can change with a single positive thought. All it takes is faith, if you’re open to it.” Masaru Emoto
