The epic Battle of Jutland will be recalled in a talk to be given on behalf of Rye & District Sea Cadets this Saturday (May 21).
Jutland was one of the defining moments of the Great War. The centenary of the clash between battleships of the Royal Navy and the German Imperial Navy, which took place on waters off Denmark, will be on May 31-June 1.
The speaker will be John Rodley, of Winchelsea, who served for 34 years in the Royal Navy before retiring with the rank of commodore. It is hoped the event will be the first of an annual maritime lecture to raise funds for Rye Sea Cadets.
The talk will take place at TS Rye, Shipyard Lane, Rye, at 6:30 pm. Tickets (£7.50) will include wine and light refreshments and are available on the door or on 01797 222629.
