Tuesday Painters on show

The Tuesday Painters Club presents its annual art exhibition at the St Mary’s Centre in Lion Street. When I called in on the second day, that last hot Saturday morning, there was a vibrant air in the main hall, generated by the bright and bold paintings on display. The smaller room, given over to the watercolour artists, was less busy but offering the quieter enjoyment for which this more delicate medium excels.

Altogether there are some 40 members of the Society exhibiting their work here. Vivienne Challans, the exhibition organiser, was clearly delighted with the response already shown by the visitors and a number of pictures had already been sold.

Next year, she told me, the committee are considering plans for widening the display to include sculpture and other forms of artwork. New members are especially welcome to join the club which holds regular meetings for demonstration, talks and critique in a friendly environment.

The show is open daily 10am to 5:30pm until Sunday, August 21

  1. This has been an extraordinary Exhibition, much thanks to Vivienne, Tuesday Painters’ Exhibition Organiser, and her other half, Trevor, who, with their fresh ideas, have made this the most successful for years! Although we are now into Day 8 of the Exhibition, with the weekend ahead as well, there is no shortage of artwork, as sold paintings have been replaced so there is still a lot of lovely stuff to see!
