Varied art at open studios

Dungeness on Romney Marsh is included in this year’s South East Open Studios, an opportunity to enjoy varied artists. One of the group is Noel East from 43 Coast Drive, Lydd on Sea, Romney Marsh, TN29 9NL. Noel says that his abstract portraiture shows that difference and being different can be something of beauty and that in the most manicured of homes there is space for the diversity that he has shown in his work. He feels that the faces and beings that he loves to create should be celebrated and accepted for their difference. He hopes that through his art he portrays a need, a desire and a want to be accepted.

Noel’s work displays difference in shape, colour and form which creates images of saintly figures, like those worshipped by many today and in the past. He says: “I am an outsider artist. I like to chose my own colours to experiment and to play with. I often work in darker colours, as I find a comfort in the darkness of things around me, as this often reflects my moods. There is a coziness to a dark lit space that hides what you may have to deal with in the full life of reality.”

From an early age he has felt as an outsider, not fitting in but doesn’t know why this should be.

The studio will be open every day between June 2-18, 2023, 10-4. On the opening night June 2, open hours are 6-8 with refreshments, all are welcome.
