Following a memorable performance in London on December 6, at the church of St Bartholomew the Great, previously reported in Rye News, Rye and London members of the Wall of Sound took part in the highly successful events of the Tales of Old day.
They began with an early afternoon performance on the stage at the Cinque Ports pub, moved on to the Butter Market in Market Street and in the early evening sang in the carol concert at a packed St Mary’s, finishing with a much praised Benedictus, by the Welsh composer Karl Jenkins. Their final appearance was later in the evening at the Oak, Peasmarsh.
The next day fourteen members of the choir walked across the marsh for lunch at the Woolpack and were very grateful to be brought back to the Globe by the pub’s minibus service.
Led by Royal Academy of Music-trained musical director and Rye resident Sandra Scott, the choir’s repertoire ranges from classical to folk and through its harmonies, all created by Sandra, has developed its own distinctive sound. It practices locally on Thursday evenings and is on the look out for new members in Rye. Take a look at the Wall of Sound website and contact Sandra on 07533 207003.
The Wall of Sound has been invited to perform in Ireland at the Cork musical festival in spring 2017.
