With all the doom and gloom at the moment I was wondering if some readers could write into the paper telling us your top ten, or top five, records you can remember as your favourites along with the number one on your list and why. Sometimes tunes are tied to a memory, or an occasion, a person, or an event and I have listed below some of my favourites.

I could go on and I have hundreds, but the one that sticks in my mind, my number one is Runaway by Del Shannon, as when the fun fair came to Rye, sometimes twice a year in the early 60s, as a teenager I was always hanging around the dodgem cars, carousel, swing boat and other attractions, and the record Runaway seemed to be played all the time – so that’s the one stuck in my head as every time I hear it, it reminds me of the early 60s.
[Editor’s note: I don’t think I have a record in the house, or the loft – but I have got cassettes, and CDs, and even DVDs (including Madonna) – and my first thoughts would include (inevitably) some hits from Abba, and at least a couple from the Rolling Stones, and one from The Beatles.
But others would include Bob Dylan’s “The times they are a-changing”, Amy Winehouse’s “You’re wondering now”, Boney M’s “Rasputin”, The Animals’ “House of the Rising Sun”, The Pogues “Fairytale of New York” and Lily Allen’s “Everyone’s at it” – and what, I wonder, would yours include and why]

I think I’d start my top ten from when I was about 10 in the 60’s in that order. Good idea Vic and remember your disco.!

I guess just random stuff I like but there’s so much good music and difficult to choose! I only have CDs these days, no vinyl. I hate streaming providers as the sound is appalling ( compressed) and artists get minimal royalties. Buy CD’s and support artists particularly now they can’t perform.
Oooo, I like this game! Since I spend pretty much every waking hour thinking about my top ten tunes, I have a list ready (but of course, it’ll be completely different if you ask me tomorrow):
