Rother Voluntary Action’s FREE Training Day (First Aid, Safeguarding, Equalities and H&S)
Join us for FREE training, whether you are a volunteer, staff member or trustee! These courses will help up-skill you and your team to adopt best practice in Basic First Aid, Safeguarding for Vulnerable Adults, Equalities and Diversity and Health and Safety.
Come to the Emmanuel Centre in Battle for either one (half day) or two (full day) training sessions. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided but this needs to be booked in advance during your online registration.
Morning Sessions:
Safeguarding Adults (3 hour course) 9 am-12 pm
The aims: To raise awareness of what adult abuse and how to raise a concern.
The objectives:
- To introduce the legislation regarding safeguarding adults
- To understand the different forms of abuse and recognise signs
- To know how to react and what to do if someone discloses abuse
- To understand the process of raising a concern with the local authority or the police if an emergency
Trainer: Renee Jasper-Griffiths
Basic First Aid (3 hour course) 9 am-12 pm
The basic first aid covers:
- How to approach a situation
- How to assess for need of the recovery position
- How to carry out CPR
- How to use a defibrillator
- How to deal with choking
- Understand basic injury treatment
- How to recognise some of the common medical emergencies and what to do.

Afternoon Sessions
Equalities and Diversity (2.5 hour course) 12.45 pm – 3.15pm
Aim: To understand practices to ensure your organisation and volunteers are inclusive
• To introduce the Equality Act 2010
• To understand that Equality equals equity
• To explore what is meant by diversity and develop a person-centred approach
• To appreciate unconscious bias
Trainer: Renee Jasper-Griffiths
Health and Safety (2.5 hour course) 12.45 pm -3.15pm
This will cover general Health and Safety and specifically the control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) such as medication and household chemicals as this is an area of common injury.
