Study Day: Annunciations and Nativities in Western Art
Paintings of the Annunciation and Nativity are among the most widely represented genres in western Christian art, but do we always know what we’re looking at? We’ll spend the day studying some familiar paintings as well as some unusual themes and perspectives, exploring question such as symbolic meanings, historical and devotional contexts, and different interpretations.
