The Rye Repair Cafe (RRC) is one year old on Saturday, May 10. As we reported in previous articles, it is a space to bring damaged items to professional volunteers. It might be someone who knows all about clocks, several electricians, a computer / mobile wiz, an occasional wood expert or sewers who mend clothes (please make sure they are clean). Bring your bike to be checked to see if it’s ready for the summer and if busy you can have a rest and the cafe team will provide coffee, tea and cake. At the last session five bikes were repaired and rejuvenated, both sewers were busy and the electricians battled with hoovers, toasters, radios and much more.
The session is free but we would appreciate a donation which is ploughed back into running the RRC, like hall and insurance bills.
At the next session on Saturday, April 12 from 10am – noon at the Rye Community Centre, we have a new volunteer, Maggie Whitaker, who is a professional horticulturist. Do bring plants you are not sure about how to best treat. Maggie can give expert advice about pruning, identifications, care / pest / weed control and answer any questions concerning gardens, large or small. If someone would like names of a plant, a leaf, or flowers being affected by disease which stunt their growth, Maggie suggests to bring a sample or clear photo on your mobile. General advice on all things ‘gardenesque’ can be sought and Maggie will do her best to help you with your queries.
