Last week on a beautiful spring day, which was also my birthday, I decided to undertake one of my favourite walks.
This is from Rye through the fields to the Norman church at Peasmarsh.
I was enjoying watching the baby lambs frolicking in the fields, when to my dismay I saw a lamb stuck in a dyke.
Its mother was frantically trying to pull the lamb out by its neck, but it was slipping further in. As it was on the other bank I rushed to find a crossing point, and reached the distressed pair.
I managed to lift the baby from the water and laid it on the bank with its mother. The mother started to clean its offspring while I stood back. However the lamb rolled back into the dyke again. So I lifted the lamb out again, and laid it higher up the bank. The mother cleaned the lamb and this time it stood up and started feeding.
Mission accomplished, I left.
This was definitely the highlight of my birthday.

How amazing you happened to be there at the right moment to reunite mother and baby!
