52,000 jabs at vaccination centre

In early 2021, few of us would have imagined that during the ensuing two years so many would have sat through multiple queues for the Covid vaccination process. Many older patients have been through 5 times!

However, the Covid vaccination programme is drawing to a pause. NHS England has announced that unless you are in a highly vulnerable category, the autumn-winter booster vaccination programme will complete on February 12, 2023

The UK Covid Vaccination Authorities have recommended a move to a more targeted vaccine offer for those considered to be at high risk of serious illness. The NHS will set out details of any future public campaigns in due course.

In Rye, at the Tilling Green Centre, our last day of the current programme will be the afternoon of Saturday, February 11. After which, the Centre will be “mothballed” until any future programme is decided.

Since May 2021 the Rye Covid Vaccination Centre provided by Clarity Chemists, a team of professional vaccinators, a huge pool of volunteers and the staff of Rye Partnership has delivered well over 52000 jabs.

It has been a magnificent community effort in a very difficult time of pandemic. Those involved – some of whom have been volunteering throughout – can be proud of the achievement!

  1. Thank you to all the volunteers at the Tilling Green site! The centre was well organised and the process very fast. Before this vaccination centre was set up, people without cars had to find a way to get to Etchingham while the rest of us had some pretty long journeys–Eastbourne in our case. Yet again Rye has proved that it can take care of its own.
