Rye travelled to local rivals on Saturday seeking a win to put promotion hopes back on track. However, Rye ran into Crowhurst Park’s Jordan Shaw. Rye batted first and after an early wobble were looking good at 110-3, but Shaw in his second spell dismissed the middle order with 4-36. Skipper Harry Smeed, with 62, held the innings together, but 5 batters got into double figures, but could not push on. Rye ended on 202 all out in the 43rd over earning 10 batting points.

Jordan Shaw opened the batting and put Crowhurst on the path to a win hitting 38 off 24 balls. Skipper Tom Powell hit 92 not out off 116 balls, supported by Jacob Watson 56 not out as they put on a 115 run partnership, and passed Rye’s total in the 37th over. Only Dylan Harrison-Smith 2-18 carried a threat.

Rye sit in 5th place in Division 3 East, and this Saturday host division leaders Brighton 1sts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. The start time is 11am to accommodate a football match at 5pm.

Rye 2nds hosted Little Common Ramblers (LCR) 2nds in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. The 2nds have a habit of batting collapses this season, and Saturday was no exception. Moving smoothly at 50-1 as Spencer Fielding hit 31 and Ellis Hatter 26, but once they had departed, only 2 players got into double figures. Rye were dismissed for 119 in 38 overs. All 6 LCR bowlers took wickets.

In reply Little Common eased past the target in just 19 overs. Ben Atkin 42 not out led the way. Jack Barras 2-28 the most successful bowler.

This Saturday the 2nds travel to Bexhill 2nds where the batting needs to improve.
The 3rd Xl in contrast continued their recent good form with a convincing win over Crowhurst Park 4ths. It was a fitting win as the game was the first in the newly refurbished Walter Merricks Pavilion. Rye batted first and scored 203-9 as Sam Bradnum top scored with 62 supported by Theo Burton 21 and Lexy Tuddenham 18 not out. Rye 3rds then dismissed Crowhurst Park for 116 to win by 87 runs. Richard Matthews 3-19 , Mike Stonham 2-15 and Anthony Bradnum 2-8 did the damage.

This Saturday the 3rds travel to Bexhill Strikers, the division leaders.

The Juniors enjoyed a good week. The Under 13s won at Tenterden, with Bertie Furnival 17 and Hugo Miller 17 leading the way to set a target of 117 to win. Rye bowled and fielded well as they dismissed Tenterden for 106. Fin Simms 2-11 and Hugo Miller 2-7 led the way with 3 good catches in the field.

The U11A team lost at home to Mersham by 25 runs. In pairs cricket taking care of your wickets is the key. Rye lost 10, but Mersham only 3, that was the difference.

The U11B team won at Mersham B by 12 runs. The key was losing 2 fewer wickets. CJ Anderson with 14 runs and only 6 byes performed well, and Fergus Cooke 4-6 stood out with the ball, with the fielding improving game by game.

Tuesday the U16s fixture v Folkestone was rained off. Next Monday the U11a travel to Tenterden and the B team host Tenterden. On Tuesday the U16s travel to Ashford and on Thursday the U13s host Ashford.
