On Tuesday, October 25 the posties of Rye stood with placards which read: “On strike to protect the service we provide for you”
Their union rep at Rye Delivery Office spoke with a Rye News reporter: “We had a 2% pay rise imposed on us a few months ago, but we feel that this does not help us enough in the present economic climate. During the pandemic we all carried on with our jobs and were not furloughed, we went to work and made sure that everyone got their parcels and post.
“We made sure the business carried on and we feel that it is like a kick in the teeth. They are trying to change our terms and conditions which we are not happy about. They want us to start our days later, but we are not in favour of this either. None of us want to be on strike, it is not something that we take lightly.”
One of the postal workers at Rye had this say: “I am striking because I just can’t cope with the rise in prices and inflation on the wages they are offering. I work really hard and am dedicated to providing a good service to my customers and we feel it is a fair deal that we are after, and we are not getting that at the moment.”
The latest Royal Mail news on its website states, “We’re doing what we can to keep services running, but customers should expect significant disruption. On days when national strike action is taking place: We will deliver as many Special Delivery and Tracked24 parcels as possible. We will prioritise the delivery of Covid test kits and medical prescriptions wherever possible. We will not be delivering letters (with the exception of Special Delivery)”.

Good luck to our hard working & dedicated Royal Mail Postal workers in retaining their working conditions & hopefully procuring a sensible living wage. Disgusting that a National service such as this has been cut to the bone by the greed of privatisation & years of Government mismanagement & theft from the public services.
To many chiefs and not enough Indians spring to mind!!
