Tommy, the mule who lives in the Undercliff Pony Rescue field with Donny the donkey and three other ponies, was brutally stabbed in the face on Sunday night, August 8. The reason for this unprovoked attack are completely unknown and has left Tommy with severe injuries to his face and teeth.

Owner Sharon Baker said she found 20 year old Tommy with blood pouring from his face.  The wound went right through his cheek and shattered teeth which have had to be extracted. Tommy has had extensive stitching to his face and has had to be moved from the Undercliff field to a stable where his healing can be monitored.

Neighbours may hear Donny braying more than usual as he misses his companion Tommy, they have lived together for 20 years.  Sharon is very grateful for the support and patience of the local community as she nurses Tommy back to health.

Sharon is very concerned about Tommy’s ability to recover.  Where the wound may heal physically, the shock and psychological wound may never repair for this veteran companion mule.

If you can help with the vet’s bill, which may run into thousands, please visit Sharon’s Just Giving page where she is crowdfunding to meet the costs.  https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/tommymule

If anyone hears or knows anything about this vile cowardly attack on a defenceless animal, please do get in touch with Sussex Police quoting crime reference SXP-20210809-0620.

  1. Shocking and senseless. Aside from the crowdfunding campaign for vet bills and secure CCTV installation, I have also offered a healthy reward for any information that leads to the prosecution of whoever committed this atrocious act. Please come forward if you have any relevant information to help catch the perpetrator[s].
