The Rye Heritage Centre in Strand Quay reopened on Thursday, April 6 to display a completely restored Rye town model, first created by Joy and Ted Harland, in 1973. After a brief closure, the centre’s in-house team of two trustees plus Kate, a dedicated volunteer, and centre manager, Simon Parsons managed the incredibly complex task of taking apart and reassembling this unique scale model.
It has been cleaned and repaired with a new electronic computerised system, to produce a new sound and light show, in its final stages of development. On April 6 the computer system will still be a work-in-progress for about another week or so but the shop and the centre itself will again be open for business.
Opening hours on Thursday, April 6 are from 10:30am until 4pm and the same on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday. Easter Sunday hours are 10:30am to 2:30pm. The centre will be closed on Tuesday, April 11. Normal opening hours, as from Wednesday, April 12 are Tuesday to Saturday 10:30am to 4pm and Sundays 10:30am to 2:30pm.
