Green Hop Beer is beer made with fresh, or green, hops – instead of using hops that have been dried as is more traditional in brewing. The beers have a characteristic fresh taste because the hops used contain many of the oils that are normally lost when hops are dried.

It is best to make sure the hops are as fresh as can be by using them within twelve hours from being picked. The spicy-grass and earthy aromas make green-hopped beer a unique taste.

Green hops have a much higher moisture content at circa 80% than the hops conventionally used (around 12%).

David Roder told me: “We got the first set of hops donated from Steve Blattman, also in the picture outside his house. We used all of his hops in the brew and topped them up with some further green hops donated by James Stewart.

“The beer was brewed on Wednesday September 13 and casked yesterday Tuesday 19. It will be on sale around the middle of October in the pub and brewery taproom and came out at 4.1%  Should be a great brew.”
