Over the weekend of April 29, Rye Spice Co. Ltd on Rye Harbour Road had an open day where you could sample their cooking and special condiments. The company was started by Robert Hollands senior and his two sons, Robbie and Glenn in 1995. The initial import was pepper and over the years the business grew, now being the largest stock collection of herbs and spices in the south of England and supplying customers across the UK.

For over twenty years, fruit, nuts and other culinary ingredients has been bought by the food trade from Rye Spice. Because of their success, in 2015 they remodelled and refurbished the office and changed it into a shop for the public to buy direct.

What a choice

Robert senior retired in 2003 and the two sons took over. With the help of Anita Hollands and the third generation on the factory floor, it is truly a family-run business. The car park was full on this open day with people tasting coronation chicken with a choice of about six sauces. A glass of beer or wine helped quench some of the real chilli tastes. It was a lovely atmosphere.

The warehouse is divided into two areas: the spice storage section also sells wonderful turned wooden gifts and spice racks and the remainder of the warehouse sells fishing tackle and everything you need to get a good catch. For any trade or individual enquiries contact Robbie on 01797 225015.  They cater for any size of order, from a small pot of spice or chutney to a ton of your favourite spice.
