Following on from the article in Rye News last month, Jempson’s, a win-win for everyone, social media has seen a number of posts confirming that the Jempson’s superstore in Peasmarsh closed on Sunday, May 14 and will be reopening on Monday, May 22 at 9am.
The Peasmarsh store is the first of the stores to be closed whilst it undergoes a transformation as part of the next stage of expansion by engaging Morrisons as its new chosen supplier for the bulk of its goods. Jempson’s has not been sold and it’s not a merger but by contracting Morrisons to supply many new lines it will be able to offer far more choice whilst still supporting and selling goods for local artisan suppliers, unlike many other national supermarket chains.
Jempson’s has been running regular announcements on social media informing its customers of the temporary closure and, for those who ‘don’t do computers’, at the entrance to the store the sign featured in the main photograph is there for all to see.
I have added a few extra shots to remind us of how Jempson’s looks now and after the opening ceremony I will update these photos with how it has changed after the makeover, a sort of before and after if you like.
Yes it’s inconvenient that the store is closed but after four years of planning it’s a small price to pay for what we are told will be “Well worth the wait”.
