On Tuesday, May 7 at 6:47pm the pagers of the crew at RNLI Rye Harbour went off as HM Coastguard had requested that the boat be launched. Two adults were stuck on the wreck of the old boat off Camber Beach and considered to be in danger.
As there was no water this meant that the boat had to be taken down to the beach for low water launch.
The coastguard was informed that the attendance of the boat would be delayed as this sort of launch requires travelling a mile to the shore and launching from the shingle.
HM Coastguard then paged Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat who attended alongside RNLI Rye Harbour.
Pett’s boat took the casualties to shore and handed them over to the coastguard team waiting for them.
Rye Harbour was stood down and returned to the station for the boat to be washed and prepared for service. Two members of the crew were just about to enjoy birthday celebrations at the local pub when the pagers went off. They assisted on the shore to ensure the boat was launched as quickly as possible.
Well done team Rye Harbour, as always great team work.
