St Thomas’s Primary School, Winchelsea, has been awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Royal British Legion. This certificate was presented by the mayor of Winchelsea, Jurat David Merrifield JP at an assembly, where it was accepted by the headteacher, Mrs Carol Gardiner.

This award was made in recognition of the fund-raising efforts in the school over the past 10 years. It recognised the support given by teaching and support staff, by pupils and their families and by the governing body, throughout this period.

In making the presentation, the mayor briefly outlined the work of the Legion and how the money raised was used. In accepting the award on behalf of the school, the headteacher said how grateful she was for this recognition. A very rewarding way to start the year. She thanked the mayor and, through him, the Royal British Legion.
