Coffee in a good cause

Macmillan’s Coffee Morning is their biggest fundraising event to support people living with cancer.

People all over the UK host their own coffee morning and donations raised on the day are made to Macmillan. Rye Harbour Holiday Park held its coffee morning on Saturday, August 27 at the clubhouse.

Masterminding the event were Lynn, Bernie, Graham and Ray with help from family and friends. Complex manager Conor Moss said, “We are thrilled to host this coffee morning as we all know someone who has been touched by this dreadful disease. If our money helps one family to have a better experience, then it is all worthwhile. A big thank you to the team who have organised it again.”

A four-time cancer survivor told me over a coffee that the support he had from the wonderful Macmillan nurses made such a difference to him.

In 2021, the coffee mornings around the country raised over £11 million and they hope to top that this year.

The first Macmillan Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, it happened again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, coffee mornings have raised over £290 million for Macmillan.
