Rye News is on the hunt for new writers and contributors. Be part of the team of volunteers who put together Rye’s local newspaper, with over six thousand readers a week and more than a million page views each year.

Join us at The Queen’s Head on Monday July 15 from 7pm to meet members of the team. It’s totally informal – just drop in when you can, grab a drink, and find us in the back room. As well as hearing about how Rye News is put together each week, this is also a chance to tell us about the stories we’re missing and how you can help us get them covered.

No experience necessary. Here’s who we are looking for:

Reporters: There’s an ever-growing list of news stories that need research and investigation, so Rye News is looking to strengthen the team who bring those stories to our readers each week. You might be responding to a breaking news story or getting to the bottom of an important local issue. You could be reviewing a local event or landing an interview with someone special. Either way there’s no shortage of stories to cover, but we need you to help us do it!

Contributors: What are you passionate about? What’s going on in your life that Rye News readers need to know more about? We’re after writers to make our People and Culture sections reflect every part of town. Our new Nature section needs more correspondents and photographers to help us share the amazing natural environment around Rye. Plus the Rye News Opinion page always gets people talking – what’s on your mind?

Newshounds: Be our eyes and ears around town. The best stories don’t come from a press release or social media, they usually start with someone saying “I don’t know if you’ve heard…”. We’re after people who can tip us off about what’s happening and give us an eye witness account – and don’t forget to take a photo.

Our readers aren’t just local, visitors from around the world log on to www.ryenews.org.uk each week. Thousands receive our email update and follow us on social media. We’ve big ambitions too, but we need you to help us be the best local paper in Britain.

Everyone who works on Rye News is a volunteer. A small core team is supported by contributors from all over Rye. There really is nothing like Rye News anywhere else in Sussex. Come and join us!

Our first “meet the team” event is on Monday July 15 from 7pm in The Queen’s Head in Rye. If you can’t make it but still want to get involved email us at info@ryenews.org.uk
