They’re among Southern England’s favourite continental visitors. They bring performing skills learned and polished over six generations of Big Top artistry. They represent a colourful cultural heritage which delights old and young alike.

They are the Santus family, representing eight generations of circus performers in their native France, and ready to greet old friends and make new ones as their 2017 circus tour begins.

Brothers Ernest and Roger Santus are members of some of France’s most illustrious circus families. Taking on almost every sort of skill and presentation, from hand-balancing and trapeze to unicycling, juggling, and acrobatics, they’ve performed across Europe and in Asia, and they’ve won top prizes at the prestigious Monte Carlo Circus Festival.

Globe of Death

This is traditional circus with a French flavour. The 2017 production includes top international artistes from Holland, Mongolia, Hungary, Morocco, Brazil, and of course Britain and France. Performances run around two hours, and feature rope-walking, juggling, diabolo, trapeze, an aerial straps double-act, the ‘Chinese pole’, hula-hooping, foot-juggling, an amazing laser man, and gentle friendly clowning, as well as the nerve-tingling thrills of the Globe of Death – breakneck motorcyclists looping the loop inside a tiny steel sphere. And watch out for a de-light-ful sequence featuring the whole performing company!

Santus Circus performs under a colourful and comfy heated Big Top. Prices start from £9 (but look out for discount vouchers to get money off). A family ticket for two adults and two children costs just £40. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, all seats are priced at just £7, first-come, first-served.

Santus Circus will be at Salt’s Farm, East Guldeford, RYE TN31 7QG from Thursday August 24 to Bank Holiday Monday August 28. Check show times at www.santuscircus.com
