Things are looking brighter at Rye Castle Museum’s East Street site as the entrance has been painted and, with the help of a grant, new lighting has been installed.
There are many new displays and we are celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday by looking at Rye in the 1920s – featuring housing, shipping, commerce and industry.
We continue to mark the 100th anniversary of the first World War, and this year we  commemorate the centenary of the sinking of the ‘Margaret’ in Rye Bay which resulted the loss of six of her crew.
We also remember the tragic loss of the Mary Stanford lifeboat – and we are fortunate to have in the collection a model of the same design of lifeboat (shown above), complete with every poignant detail.
East Street opens for the season on Saturday March 26 and will also be open on Easter Sunday and Monday. Thereafter we will be open every weekend until the end of October. The opening hours are 10:30am to 4pm.
We depend on our volunteers to remain open, so why not come along to our volunteers’ evening at 6pm on Friday March 18 to have a drink and a chat and see what you can do to help?
