Police are appealing for witnesses after three separate serious incidents involving motorcyclists during the last week. A biker died at Brenzett and two more were badly hurt near Winchelsea Beach and Beckley.

In the first incident Kent Police have issued an appeal for information following a fatal collision near Romney Marsh.

A blue Toyota C-HR SUV car was travelling towards Lydd on the A259 at Brenzett when it was involved in a collision with a Honda motorcycle travelling in the same direction near Tickners Lane. The collision took place at 3:50pm on Saturday, April 12.

The motorcyclist, a 37 year old man, sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage, which could assist their enquiries, to come forward. Witnesses should call the SCIU appeal line on 01622 798538 quoting reference BS/SS/024/25.

Also at the weekend, a helicopter from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex was dispatched to Pett Level Road near Winchelsea Beach on Sunday, April 13. The crew arrived on scene at midday where they worked with SECAmb, Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to help treat the patient, involved in a road traffic collision.

The patient was transported to a major trauma centre by air. The road re-opened later in the afternoon.

Emergency services responded to reports of a collision on Northiam Road in Beckley, outside the Rose and Crown public house, around 5:30pm on Thursday, April 10.

It involved a Skoda Octavia car and a Harley Davidson motorbike, both travelling east. The motorcycle rider, a 60-year-old local man, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious leg injuries.

Officers investigating the circumstances of the collision would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or who may have captured any relevant dashcam footage from the area.

Anyone with information is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk or call 101 quoting serial 936 of 10/04.

  1. Tragic incidents. My sympathies to all those involved and their families.
I have to say that if motorcycles were invented today they would be banned. None of a modern car’s safety features.

  2. The speed and noise of the bikers leaving Rye up Udimore road makes it feel like a racetrack. The police are never to be seen. The highway authority doesn’t acknowledge that there is an issue (they don’t live here). The biking community is not making any attempt to self regulate the thuggish behaviour of their careless riders. How many more must die before steps are taken by riders to stop racing on these roads?

  3. We witnessed two motorcycle near misses at the temporary traffic lights between Jurys Gap and Lydd a couple of weeks ago. One bike overtook a queue of cars at the lights as they went green, at speed, only just sqeezing through past the first car as it sped up into the roadworks – he was VERY lucky to get away with it. Then incredibly one of his buddies, eager to catch up with his idiotic friend overtook just through the roadworks almost headlong into a car coming the other way. It was very frightening to witness. From this RN report it seems at least two of these motorcyclists came to grief while overtaking dangerously. For heavens sake – Slow down. The roads around here are not a racetrack.

  4. Motor cycling is a fabulous thing to do but there are young very bad riders out there who should learn the IAM rules, and there are also a lot of very bad drivers out there now who rely on thier clever !!! cars to drive for them as they are not capable of even reversing into a space now with out warning bleeps etc . It’s a sad state of affairs
