Residents and visitors to Battle, Bexhill, and Rye will be able to park for free in the towns’ off-street car parks on selected days in the lead up to Christmas.

In support of local businesses and events, Rother District Council (RDC) will again be waiving parking charges in its off-street pay and display car parks on three Saturdays during the festive season.

Charges will be suspended all day in Bexhill and Rye car parks on December 4, 11 and 18. In Battle, car park charges will be suspended all day on November 27, and December 4 and 11.

Car park charges will also be waived in Bexhill and Battle between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday, December 9 for the late-night Christmas shopping event.

Additionally there will be free parking at the De La Warr car park in Bexhill from 3pm on Friday, December 3 in support of the town’s Light Up Bexhill Christmas event.

Supporting local businesses

Councillor Christine Bayliss, portfolio holder for economic development and regeneration at Rother District Council, said: “The last year and a half has been extremely challenging for our local high streets and independent businesses and it is important we support them as much as possible during the busy Christmas period.

“We hope that by offering free parking on the Saturdays before Christmas and on the late-night shopping evening, residents and visitors will be encouraged to shop locally, supporting our communities and helping the local economy.”

Signage will be displayed in the off-street car parks confirming the dates when visitors can park for free.

Parking regulations, including time limits on spaces, will still apply and anyone not complying will still be liable for the standard charge.
