Tilling Green was buzzing with fun and excitement when Rye and District  Dementia Action Alliance (RDDAA) held a very successful fund-raiser on Friday October 19. Involving local community groups and a live band. This was all in an effort to promote the charity and raise funds to further its work.

The RDDAA event saw the Fieldstone Boys Skiffle Band entertaining the local community. The Explorer Scouts took time out of their Duke of Edinburgh Award activities to cook and serve a delicious range of food, from  bacon butties to apple pie and custard.

Heringtons Solicitors generously sponsored the event, displaying its continued support for the Dementia Alliance. Many local shops and businesses donated raffle prizes.

A grand total of £371 was raised to further the work carried out and promoted by RDDAA, that of raising awareness of dementia by giving talks to the public, shops and businesses to help their understanding of dementia, in an effort to reduce the stigma and misconceptions of the disease – all in growing and progressing effort to making Rye and District a dementia-friendly community.

Rye Health Store must be congratulated on its progression in following this movement and becoming the first shop first shop in the High Street to join the Rye and District Dementia Action Alliance with all their staff fully trained as Dementia Friends.
