Thanks to regular Rye News contributor Isabel Ryan for sending in this series of photographs taken last Tuesday March 26, showing the two-man cleaning team in action removing foliage from the Landgate.
One man was competently wrangling the traffic from Cinque Ports Street while the other, dangling but securely held by ropes, cleaned moss and green foliage off the stonework around the clock. On the day they had cleaned up the other side: they were doing a beautiful job.
Now that it’s had a spring clean and with the moss and foliage cleared, if the weather cheers up the masonry might get a chance to dry. It’s gratifying to see steps being taken to preserve this important local landmark.
