The charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) hoping to take on Rye Leisure Centre next year have nearly reached their target for community-backed donations, and are in the last push this month to equal this sum.
CIO chairman Barry Nealon said: “We are very lucky to live in a community that sees the real value of the pool and leisure centre to the health and well-being of local people. We are so grateful to each and everyone who has made a contribution, however large or small. Our hope is that we can take on the centre in the new year. We’ve received great support from levelling up money for dilapidations, but need to be sure we have the working capital to run the centre – to cover wages, bills etc- in the first couple of years, as we build up our own membership and revenue streams.
“Small donations can be made via Just Giving. Our page has been down for an upgrade and administrative purposes but we now understand it is back up and running. Larger donations can be made directly to the CIO’s bank account. We ask that anyone who would like to do so gets in touch with us; anyone who is a UK tax payer and eligible to make a gift aid declaration can contact us via info@ryeleisurecentre.co.uk to get the simple form to complete and return – you can do this if you’ve made a donation already, because it makes a really big difference to us.
“We have an important meeting with the town council at the end of the month to allow us to know which direction our decision making goes. We will have a decision about the lease from ESCC in early October and hope at that stage it will be all system go, if all parties can come together and deliver the project.”
