Staff and members of the Mariners‘ tea shop in the High Street held an open garden event on Saturday July 29. In their large garden behind the tea-rooms, rarely open to the public, we were entertained by the Rye Ukelele Experiment band, dancing by adults and children, and stalls for second-hand books and a lucky dip, amongst others.
Also known as the Coterie Tea Room, the Mariners is run by the Canterbury Oast Trust, a charity which supports adults with learning difficulties. The Trust also runs the Rare Breeds Centre near Ashford.
The event was held in aid of MS (the multiple sclerosis charity) so it was a case of one charity helping another.
