Military Road plan refused

In a surprise move, Rother District Council (RDC) planners have refused permission to build on a plot of land adjacent to The Globe Inn on Military Road.

The original application was for a ground floor garage with a studio on the first floor. The application drew a lot of criticism from local residents but it was the design of the building that ultimately led to RDC planners to reject it.

Rother’s planners cited the building’s “unsympathetic design and form” they particularly criticised the design of the windows, the lack of pitch of the roof and how the design would poorly address a highly visual and sensitive corner in Rye’s conservation area.

The full letter of refusal can be found here.
