Phil Whiteman, commanding officer for the Rye Sea Cadets posted this comment on Facebook after Christmas:
“Well, this is something that I didn’t think I would be writing again this year! Rye & District Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets have had another minibus stolen this year over the Christmas period.
“Please keep your eyes open and report any sightings to the police. We are a charity and this is absolutely devastating for us.”
To have this happen once is dreadful but twice is appalling. The Rye Sea Cadets give youngsters such a great learning environment where they can achieve and grow in confidence. Having a minibus is essential and without it their activities will be curtailed.

I support an overturn of the decision to waste time and money on repainting the exterior of the George Hotel, it looks fine as it is. The upheaval in the High street again is unnecessary
A sad state of affairs but a sign of times I’m afraid, could you not keep the next one somewhere secure like the wharf for instance, I’m sure they would be more than happy to let you park in there.
This would also help the insurance premiums that must be going through the roof.
Is the minibus being secured properly (i.e. with a key-operated steering lock) to supplement the (often vulnerable) electronic security that modern vehicles have?
Terrible news and I hope it may be recovered. I wondered the same as Dr Hudd. Steering locks aren’t invulnerable, but my car has a heavy steering lock and a clutch lock in addition to the electronic system. As Tony says, it is a sign of the times, alas…
I can accommodate one adult and five plus youngsters in my vehicle if you need help in the meantime. Sure Nick will provide my number should you need it.
Good man
