Sally-Ann Hart, the Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye, visited the Rye Delivery Post Office this week to pass on season’s greetings to the local Royal Mail team who are working hard to deliver cards and gifts in time for Christmas.

It was also an opportunity for her to thank postal workers for their hard work during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sally-Ann was shown around the delivery office by the delivery office manager and was introduced to postmen and women as they gear up for Christmas. She also heard how the team has worked tirelessly over the past eighteen months to help keep local communities connected and businesses trading.

Commenting on the visit, Sally-Ann said: “As key workers, Royal Mail staff have been working flat out with little respite throughout the pandemic and, as always, it is getting even busier in the run-up to Christmas.

“It was a pleasure to meet the local team in Rye and to offer them my personal thanks as well as highlight the gratitude of the community, for the hard work that they do day in, day out. As we approach the Christmas season, they will be delivering many parcels and cards, helping to spread a bit of festive cheer after what has been a challenging time for many.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said; “We are proud to have played our part throughout the pandemic by keeping the community connected. There’s no doubt it has been challenging, but we remain very grateful to our customers for their support and for keeping us so busy! Now we will be working even harder to deliver Christmas parcels and cards, so it was a real boost to have a visit from Sally-Ann to see the operation and to support the team.”
