Camber by-election

There’s a by-election in Camber next week. Villagers go to the polls on Thursday, August 24 to fill a vacant seat on the parish council.

Two people have been nominated to stand for election: John Bradford and Brenda Snashall.

The closing date to apply for a postal vote has passed.

Oil spill closes roads

Roads were closed around Rye after an oil spill on Wednesday, August 9. The cause was a coach which suffered a mechanical failure, losing a large amount of oil on Landgate and Rye Hill.

Sussex Police were called to the scene just after 3pm, closing the road between Bedford Place and Deadmans Lane shortly after to allow clean up. Further closures on Landgate began at 6pm. Police left the scene at 9:30pm.

Away from the oil spill, there have been long delays on the main road into Rye because of gas works on New Road.
