You’ll need to book
As expected proposals to introduce a booking system at East Sussex’s rubbish tips have been approved by a senior county councillor. The plans were agreed by Cllr Claire Dowling, East Sussex County Council’s lead member for transport and environment, on Monday February 24.
The new system will require residents to book a half-hour time slot — either online or by telephone — before visiting any of the county’s 10 household waste recycling sites, including Mountfield near Battle.
The council says the change is expected to save around £50,000 per year, reduce queuing and discourage both non-East Sussex residents (who would be made to pay a fee) and businesses from using the service.
Up for discussion

The Rye Neighbourhood Plan will be discussed by Rother District Council’s Cabinet meeting on Monday March 3. RDC is consulting in the updated plan before deciding whether recent changes can be approved or need further discussion in Rye.

More scallops

Rye Castle Museum held a craft afternoon during half term at East Street Museum, welcoming 28 children along with 38 accompanying adults,.
The theme was sea life – prior to Rye Scallop Week. Children decorated scallop shells – thanks to Chapmans fish market for supplying the shells. Paper fish, mermaid peg dolls and pirate hats were also made by the children. A spokesperson for the Museum said: “It was good to see so many families some local as well as those on holiday, all enjoying the crafts. Thanks to our museum volunteers.”
The museum will soon be having a spring clean prior to opening in April. In the meantime Ypres Tower is open every day.
Plus of course, Rye Bay Scallop Week continues this weekend. Rye News will have a full report next week.

Ahead of International Women’s Day, Kino Rye is proud to host a special Q&A screening of the award winning independent film Shalborne, the historical drama written and directed by Caroline Corrie.

Caroline Corrie says the screening at 8pm on Friday March 7 and Q&A after will explain more about independent film making process. “I took on multiple production roles including lead actress to produce an exceptional film on a tiny budget.
