More about Martello

The location of the four sites in Rye being developed by Martello

Plans for 140 new homes in Rye will be on show at an event organised by Martello Developments. What’s being described as a “Community Engagement Event” is taking place at The Winery on Rock Channel in Rye on Wednesday February 12 between 4.00 and 7.30pm.

Whilst there have been a number of briefings, this is the first time members of the public will be able to hear from the developers who hope to build homes at Tilling Green, the Freda Gardham School / Rye Creative Centre, and Bridgepoint. A fourth site on Rye Harbour Road has already proved controversial because of the flood risk.

The meeting will include representatives from RX Architects, Whaleback Planning Consultants and Silverstone Communications.

The proposals are not expected to be submitted to Rother District Council planners until early Summer. You can read more about the plans in this Rye News article.

Police patrols

Sussex Police say there have been increased patrols in Rye after reports of anti-social behaviour on Cinque Ports Street and nearby roads. What they describe as “high visibility foot patrols” took place on Tuesday January 28.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “It’s important to have opportunities to speak with local residents and business owners to discuss issues affecting them and their communities. We urge residents to report concerns or emerging issues as they occur, as we can only take action if an issue is brought to our attention. To contact us, please call 101 or submit a report through our website at www.sussex.police.uk.
