Exciting plans for Rye Swimming Pool, pothole repairs announced, and it’s official – Rye is one of the best UK seaside resorts.

Important pool meeting this weekend

Rye Swimming Pool

There’s an important meeting at Rye Leisure Centre this weekend looking at the financial future of the swimming pool. What’s being described as the biggest fundraiser in the town since Rye Hospital was saved thirty years will be launched at the centre on Saturday July 27 at 10.30am.

The charity hoping to run Rye Leisure Centre is inviting people to hear more about their plans. Project co-manager Rebekah Gilbert says she hopes as many people as possible will come along. “After a brief presentation we want to hear their thoughts about the centre, the sort of classes they would attend there, and to complete a questionnaire. We will also launch our new website and social media which we hope many will follow and share to keep the communication flowing. The community said they wanted the pool to stay open, so here is a chance to say how that should be.”

Pothole repairs announced

Potholes on Camber Road

Damaged roads in Rye, Pett Level, Brede, Houghton Green, Jury’s Gap and Camber are listed to have their potholes repaired between now and April 2025. East Sussex County Council has committed an extra £1million towards new work which it describes as patching repairs to “focus on areas of the road network in most need of repair.” In Rye the work is centred on Military Road and Station Approach.

No dates have been confirmed for work to start. There’s a full list of the extra repairs on the ESCC Highways website.

One of the best in Britain

UK resorts in Which Magazine survey

Another award for Rye. This time the town is sixth equal, along with Southwold and Dartmouth, in a list of the best UK seaside resorts voted by Which Magazine readers. Bamburgh in Northumberland scored mostly highly.

More traditional seaside towns scored poorly with Great Yarmouth, Blackpool, Clacton, Skegness, Bognor Regis and Southend all among the lowest rated.
