Camber on film

More pictures from last week’s filming at Camber Sands. Pressure tells the story of James Stagg, the meteorologist whose forecast was crucial to the D-Day landings. The beach at Camber stood in for Normandy during the filming of the movie which stars Andrew Scott as Stagg, Brendan Fraser as Eisenhower and, as you can see in Amanda English’s photos, Damian Lewis as Montgomery.

Smashed

Sussex Police are looking for more information after a car window was smashed on Ferry Road. It happened overnight between Monday September 30 and Tuesday October 1.

The crime reference is CAD 900 01/10 refers.

Rail and road closures

Tunnel repairs

The closure of the rail line to Hastings for two weeks begins in a week’s time. Work on the Ore tunnel means buses replacing trains between Rye and Hastings, and a weekday shuttle to Ashford during the day. The repair work begins on October 19.

Southern Railways has set up a dedicated website to help passengers plan journeys. You can find all the details about the replacement bus service and altered train times here.

Stuart Harland from MLAG (MarshLink Action Group) says the rail company has been made aware of the nearby road repairs: “Questions have been raised about the road works along South Undercliff and the effect those works will have on the replacement bus services. Southern will provide any updates on their website.”

Overnight roadworks on the A259 begin on Monday October 14, with the road closed in places each weekday evening 8pm – 6am in several places between the Skinners and Kettle O Fish Roundabouts. Work continues until November 8.

Football

Rye Town FC lost their winning streak at the weekend away to Sedlescombe Rangers. They went down 5-1 on Saturday October 5. Sam Hesmer scored for Rye

The team are still top of the Premier Division of East Sussex Football League with 15 points after six games, more than double Rye Town’s nearest rival Hollington United, who are on 7 after four games.

This Saturday October 12 Rye Town are away to Bexhill Amateur Athletic Club. Kick off at the Sidley Recreation Ground is at 2pm.

National Town Crier Competition 2023 in Rye

Don’t forget it’s the town crier’s championship this Saturday October 12. Rye is hosting the competition for the second year in the Gun Garden from 11:30am More details here.
