On Friday, November 18 children at Rye Community Primary School celebrated Children in Need by wearing their pyjamas to school. Laura McDonald, assistant inclusion lead, explained: “We were also lucky enough to welcome local MP, Sally-Ann Hart during UK Parliament Week. The children learnt about the Palace of Westminster, the difference between the House of Lords and the House of Commons and what an MP’s role is. After a tour of the school, children were able to spend time asking Sally-Ann questions; they were very excited to discover that she had met King Charles III. The children were keen to speak with Sally-Ann about what she could do to help re-open the swimming pool so that their lessons could continue.”
During the visit, Year 5 discovered that in the spring they are taking part in a tour and a “laws and debating” workshop in Parliament, where Sally-Ann is hoping to meet them again.
Sally-Ann commented after her visit, “When I visited the children during Parliament Week, it was also Children in Need day and it was great to see them really engage with the events of the day as well as Parliament Week – in their pyjamas! They asked some excellent questions during the afternoon assembly on my rôle as an MP and Parliament: some future MPs in the making.”
