Pictures and video: Christmas in Rye pudding race

The rain stopped but the wind didn’t! It didn’t matter though as Rye children and adults were not going to be denied their pudding races and turned out in force on Saturday December 7. Christmas in Rye continues whatever the weather.

It is always very popular and fun to watch as it draws in big crowds. As the evening came, the lights on the High Street were very welcoming, and people carried on shopping and had a different kind of fun.

Paul Goring, our very own town crier, gave a wonderful cry to start things off. It’s always a show stopper, as are our Rybellion Drummers.

A big thank you to Andrew from WJ Bennetts who donated the Christmas puddings.
Sophie Thorp who masterminded the day said: “Thank you to the Town Crier and the Mayor for their involvement, especially as they got exceedingly wet welcoming Father Christmas. Many people made the day go with a swing and I wish to thank you all. The grotto saw 170 children this year in five hours and over 100 visitors enjoyed the tractor and trailer rides despite the weather! “

  1. What a wonderful bunch of photos! Rye was abuzz, despite the weather. So much going on, even our little Art Exhibition at St. Mary’s Centre. Thank you, KT, for visiting and for your photo of our elf – Photo no. 41.
