We have all heard about, and no doubt seen, the Oscars and all those red carpet ceremonies over the years, crammed wall to wall with A list stars and their cohorts but if there were an equivalent ceremony for radio and audio then surely it must be ARIAS, The audio and radio industry awards.

This year’s awards ceremony is taking place at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London on May 2 and nominees for all 28 categories were announced on March 30. One category is best local show (supported by RCS) and we are delighted to confirm that Rye’s very own James Stewart, creator of his podcast Ryecast, has been nominated for this prestigious award. Well done James, we are all very proud of what you have achieved since launching Ryecast and for being an important part of the Rye News team.

The audio and radio equivalent of the Oscars

In case you haven’t heard of Ryecast, the introduction below tells you everything but it has now become an integral part of our community and a very popular platform about the real people of Rye.

Best local show nominations including our very own Ryecast.

“Ryecast – the new podcast for Rye in East Sussex – went live on Sussex Day, June 16, 2022. Rye is full of people with a story to tell – and that’s what Ryecast is all about. Aimed at locals and visitors alike, the podcast looks back at significant moments in Rye’s colourful history and celebrates life in the town today. It features people who’ve made a difference to the town and finds out why they think Rye is so special. There are episodes on the things Rye is famous for, as well as the stuff the town relies on each day.

“Ryecast is made by James Stewart who after 30 years at the BBC is enjoying writing, producing and presenting the podcast. He moved to Rye with his partner and dog in 2021 and loves how making the podcast has introduced him to so many fascinating people. Lengthy meetings in W1A have been replaced by creative walks by the sea and chats with locals over a pint in the Bell or a cup of tea in the Mermaid Street Café. It’s recorded on a Zoom HN4 Pro and edited at the kitchen table on a laptop.
