Less than half the trains leaving Rye railway station are on time according to a new report. The analysis also shows an average of 1,095 journeys either started or finished at Rye each day in 2022, making the station the 784th busiest on the UK rail network. In contrast, there were 26 journeys at Winchelsea on an average day, and just three at Doleham.

The statistics from On Time Trains are based on National Rail data, and while just 47% of trains leave on time a further 30% are only one or two minutes late. Longer delays of over 10 minutes account for two percent, and three percent of trains are cancelled all together. The biggest delays are usually in the afternoon. The statistics don’t include days when there has been no service due to industrial action – the most recent being Saturday, September 2.

Delays through Rye

Based on delays and cancellations over the last three months, Rye station ranks at 1,152 out of a total of 2616 on the UK rail network. The statistics also show that at 1,095 journeys last year, Rye station is approaching pre-pandemic usage. In 2019 there were 1,316 trips via Rye, compared with 419 in 2021.
