The annual relocation of beach shingle in Rye Bay is now under way. Under Environment Agency supervision, convoys of these trucks are regularly moving shingle from the breakwater at the mouth of Rye Harbour westward to Pett Level in an effort to counter coastal drift and erosion.
Seen here coming back empty after delivering their loads they don’t hang around – so swimmers, walkers, cyclists, bird-watchers, rollerbladers, dog owners, canoeists, paddle-boarders and other beach road users should be on the lookout!

I have always found the lorries at Rye Harbour very considerate towards me and my dog
