Rye is tops for traditions

June 16 is Sussex Day and it is always so wonderful to be part of Sussex Day in Rye. Ryebellion Drummers are always crowd pleasers; the cry from Paul Edward Goring, Town Crier for Rye, explained our pride in the county; Revd Paul White read the prayer of St Richard, patron saint of Sussex.

Sussex Day Revd Paul White

Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits thou hast given me,
for all the pains and insults thou hast borne for me.
O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,
may I know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly, day by day.
Amen.

Sussex Day Andi Rivett and Rebekah Gilbert

After the prayer Cllr Rebekah Gilbert and the mayor of Rye, Andi Rivett led the singing of two very emotive Sussex songs including Sussex by the Sea. This was the perfect end to a very Rye tradition. It was great to see so many supporters too.
Long live Sussex and the ancient town of Rye.
